So in addition to the Lignum Vitae 122 I displayed in my previous thread, I thought I'd show this Pre Factory Gaboon Ebony (AKA Gabon ebony) 118 with leather spacers. This was another knife I picked up in a collection shown here on the SPS several weeks ago. The Gaboon Ebony handled knives are few and far between. Ebony was a handle material choice in the last of the pre factory knives in the late 1950s, along with Melamine, Elk horn. Soon the common handle material we all know, Phenolic was offered and these others went away. I speculate that because Ebony was only an option, and that because other arguably nicer handle materials were offered, ebony handled knives are rare. If others out there have some pre factory knives want to show them off, here is your thread.

Small History lesson, The 118 was Hoyt Buck's favorite knife.

Here is my 118 Gaboon Ebony 118.

I like that handle a lot... The grain of the Ebony gives it quite some character! Thanx for sharing:thumbup:

I was just able to pick up a few knives. I am slow rolling them on the forum. That way the excitement will last for weeks...
