Hello Fellow Members,

This questions is for all my Chris Reeve Knives enthusiast and connoisseurs. I have the opportunity to purchase a mint condition Large Sebenza 21 from a dealer, one without the "Idaho Made" stamp but the dealer has no box and no papers. This dealers is 100% legit so I know the knife is authentic. The issue he and I are running into is neither of us know for sure what type of steel the blade is made from. He knows for sure that it was made in 2009, but he tells me he thinks its S35VN. Does anyone here know if that's true? Did any of the Pre-Idaho Made stamped Sebenza's come with S35VN or were they all S30V? If any of you know the answer to this question it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Best regards,
Abid.

99% sure there were s35 without the idaho made. There's also reports of brand new models with birth dates in the last month or two that have no stamp. If in doubt just ask him to disassemble it and check the blade. marked s for s30v and v for 35

Thank you very much for the information, I will ask him to do that; did not know that the blades were marked. Awesome, thanks again.

You'll find a few random non idaho made Sebs with S35. Some lefties in the CRK forum got a few that were assembled in Feb 2013 with no stamp and S35. Just depends if they have some old scales laying around that weren't used up. Entirely possible, not the norm though.

However if it was assembled in 2009, the likelihood of you getting S35 is slim to none.

@SMI. Thank your for all the information. I'm hoping for S30V, I think it would be cool to have an S30V Sebenza. Thanks again.

If it has no papers he must be seeing the date on the scale. They are often made a good while before the knife was assembled.
Could have been assembled in 2010.
I think it was Jan. 2011 when they switched the S35VN, so its more than likely S30V.

@Ken44. Thank you for all that information, he is sending the knife out to me to check it out for myself. I'm hoping for S30V. Thanks again.
