Not to boast, but I'm so wound up I can hardly stand it.

Imagine a boy in 1996-1997, reading about Newt Livesay’s RTAK and some jungle junkies named Jeff Randall and Mike Perrin. I fell in love with that huge knife, and the use of machetes in later TK articles fascinated me to no end. I had a machete ever since I was a kid, but smacking gators on the back of the head, and prepping game with them never crossed my small mind. Since then, I’ve learned some stuff, via books, experience, mentors, or the forums and wiggled my way into a huge appreciation for everything tropical, always wanting to go on that ultimate trip, to the jungle with RAT. Now, roughly 13 years from then, I’ll be in Peru, as an absolute silent sponge soaking up everything this unbelievable trip has to offer, from the bugs and the reptiles, to the waterfall of knowledge stemming forth from Jeff, Mike, and their indigenous associates. Words cannot contain the excitement building up inside, and come this Wednesday, I’ll be on a plane to carryout one of the all time top things I had on my “to do” list. Hazaa!

Watch out for those waterfalls. Jeff has to constantly be reminded not to waterfall against the wind. lol.

Seriously though, I am way jealous. One day I'll get to go on one of these trips and it drives me nuts not being able to go. Have fun and be safe! I would say be sure and take your camera, but if it was me, I wouldn't be concerned with taking pictures, just learning and having fun.

I'm sorry Joe. It just plain slipped my mind to let you know we canceled the trip!

Don't forget those binoculars! Wouldn't want you to miss seeing every creepy crawler down there! :D

Have a blast, dude. I'm super jealous.

I'm sure you will have a great time! A "dream come true trip" - yeah I'm jealous ... have fun.

Before you panic, Joe, I'm just joking. In fact, I'm already packed and ready to go. Of course packing for me is about a 5 minute affair since all the jungle gear is cleaned and re-packed every time we get back from down there. I've been working on the routes, maps and course instruction for the past couple of days. So, as long as everyone makes it to Iquitos safely and on time, we should be good to go. Two of the guys are already on the ground in Iquitos.

Weather forecast is showing about 90 degrees average for the highs and always a chance of thunderstorms. Pretty typical.

Have a Great time and while your doing all this absorbing remember to have Fun & enjoy the things around you

Are you kidding? I'll be snapping pictures like a japanese tourist. I'll be bringing the little video camera down there as well to get some of the locals machetering.

I'll be looking forward to seeing that! Might pick up a new trick or two!:thumbup:

Ne day I too would love to take an adventure like that. I'm starting small for now . See how that goes then one day maybe south American rainforest.

Enjoy yourself and please share all that you can when you return.

Seeing how the locals swing would make a great "how to" video.
....and by "swing" I mean a machete, not how they party on the plural.

That's awesome Joe. Have a great time man! And yes I'm extremely jealous :o
Can't wait to see the pictures

Congrats Joe! What an awesome opportunity. The RAT folks and the rain forests of Peru will leave an indelible mark on your approach to survival. My only concern is; will the RAT folks and Peru be the same after experiencing you :D. Be safe bro.

I'm sorry, but I have to call BS on the whole thing.

Joe, "an absolute silent sponge," is just something I can't picture. :)

Have a good trip, SpongeJoe MachetePants.

I lived as an Ex-pat in Costa Rica for a few years as a kid and ever since we came back state-side, I've been dying to jump back into the jungles of latin america. One day I'm gonna get in on one of those trips. Until then, I'll have to live vicariously through y'all. Let me know how it goes and I'm sure y'all will have a great time!

*jealous*

I'll wait till they do a trip into the primitive country of Idaho or Montana. The jungle just creeps me out. I plan to never be close enough to one to have to survive in it. I’ll take 40 degrees to 90 any day of the week. And, if you want a desert to mess around in, southwestern Idaho would be perfect.

(Sorry to throw a wet blanket on the party!)

Nope. Don't like jungles; never have — spent way too much time in them in my youth. I do like trips like that, though, and this looks like a good one. It should be a truly great adventure, with the opportunity to see and do things you've never done before. While I don't particularly like jungles, I do envy you the trip and adventure.

Have fun, and take a lot of pictures for those of us who aren't going.
