Hi, still trying to learn all my buck knives. How do you tell between the production 1961 & after fixed blade one liners vs the pre 1961 ones?
Here's an example of one to discuss.....thank you all!!

sorry for the large photo.........still haven't figured out how to shrink those down yet.

[photo bucket for dummies] post pict in photo buckit select at bottom click generate
click on clickable thumbnails then past here...
this one has a side pin so it is post 62
the ones with the plug on the very end are barrel nuts and pre 62
1961 has some of both...

Two more things tigerdale; the BUCK* stamping is from late '66 and the spacers are micarta and not the red hard bone spacers of earlier Bucks. Interestingly enough is the fact that they are not red bone as most Bucks I have seen do have the bone 'gasket' spacers up into the Buck usa stamping that was used later on ('67-'72). Nice piece! Is it a 105? 102? 118? 116?

As you are beginning to see, usually a couple of items have to be taken into consideration to accurately date an old BUCK. I would hazzard that your knife is dated to very early '67 and among the first to get micarta spacers on a leftover '66 blade with the * stamping. But what do I know?

Dave

Thanks for the info, the one pictured is a 102. Is there a book or something that I can read up on all of this. Has anyone put anything together....from how the buck stamp changed (how can you tell this is 1966) to the use of different spacers (a previous post of mine the elk handled one used leather spacers). I think all of this is so interesting!! I appreciate all of these posts....I really do. Thank you.

i asked Santa once for THE complete book on every thing to know all about buck knives...
realy was sad with the answer i got back and the black fluff that was in it...
he said short of makeing a pack with the devil the best bet was to ask Uncle Sam...

Decaf is right...there doesn't seem to be "one" papyrus based Buck Bible that has all the data (that I know of anyway).

"Blade's Guide to Knives and Their Values" is a decent book.
However, I find that it doesn't have all the data I, as a Buck junkie, want.

This site and the clowns that post here in this travelling circus is your best bet

I appreciate all of this.....I hope someday to I can be a respected member ot the circus!!

Most clowns scare me. But I use it affectionately here...kine like saying "their knowledge is older than dirt". ;)

This clown was picked up for a concealed weapon charge. He had a 120 in his boot.

Looks somewhat like Five-0 Mike on the left :)
