So I got my hands on what i think is an old axe given to my late father back in the late 70s here in new zealand by an old lady neighbour who also gave my dad a collection of really old wood planes and wood working tools from her late husband who in turn had gotten them from his father, He had a plane that would now be 150 years old , But he has always had this axe in terrible condition and never used it and since it made its way to my hands i have started cleaning the rust and pitting. Now I'm keen to date the beast. It has Wellend Vale punched in on one side and "<Black Prince>" on the other side but no TRue Temper stamp and the stamping looks pretty rudimentary. Does anyone know how to date such apiece?? The dating is Just for my curiosity , I plan to keep this axe and then hand it down . I restore old guitars so now nice to be using some of that skill to restore this beaut of an old axe.
