Making a knife for a client and wondering about any possible issues of electro etching the logo post HT. The blade is CPM-4V and will be sending it to Peter's. Does anyone have any info on if there are issues with etching post HT? The blade is about done so hope to send it by the end of the week. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. First knife in 4V for me so am learning as I go on this one.

Also, if you have any preference on which electrolytes are best with 4V I would like to hear that as well.

Thank you.

I etch everthing post HT from Rex121 and S125v, to Vanax Superclean, Lc200n and AEB-L.

It all works.

Even the knives in CPM 4V I did.

It's electro chemical so doesn't rely on the hardness of the steel.

Thanks. I didn't figure it would matter but never worked with this one before and since this is a 16.25" camp chopper I want to make sure before I sent it in for HT.

Any preference on which electrolyte to use though?

Beyond me, I just use salt water, I mix before etching.

I haven't tried all the fancy electrolyte mixs to see if they are better or worse.

I haven't had a need to.

I'd rather buy more belts :p

D2 has been my most picky etching steel and I have no problems using the proper solution and stencils. In the thousands upon thousands of blades we have heat treated for customers I have only seen a handful of blades marked before heat treating. These blades where stamped and a tad picky when I surface ground them and keeping the makers mark nice and full. But our customers sure seam to love our surface grinding thy can order with their heat treat lol.
