I just recently got in some 1080 1/8" x 1.5" stock, and there are all kinds of Dips and warpage in it. My grinds are all over the place depending on where the dips are!

My question is; does someone offer a reasonably priced service where I can send my cut to length blanks to clean this stuff up?

I have tried to flatten it up on my Platen, but it is just too much to remove!

any help is appreciated!

1080 is cheap. I'd say try to complain/return it, get some somewhere else, if not then chalk it up to a loss if you can't fix it yourself. Buy from a different vendor next time.

What kind of grinder do you have? What belts do you use? I'm just thinking, I could grind 1080 blanks that thickness/width away to just powder pretty quick with my platen and a sharp Blaze belt. I'd think that it being 1/8" to begin with doesn't give you much room to correct it by grinding anyway, if it's as you say too much work to clean up it's probably irredeemable anyway.

A machine shop could surface grind this stuff for you, but you don't want to pay for that.

1080 is as expensive as you want to make it.

Just some loose rambling from yours truly.

Thanks for the reply Salem! I have an email to the supplier I will see what happens there. I think it was intended for Forging not stock removal. Probably will have to mark this up to a learning exp. or make do!

I have a KMG grinder and a wide variety of Belts including 36 blaze, but as you stated. I may end up with nothing when finished.

I have a friend that owns a machine shop. He is so backed up with work I hate to ask!

Or you could sell or trade it to someone who makes damascus. It's just right for that. Or maybe get your friend to set you up on his surface grinder to do it yourself.
