Preferred edge for Stellite/Talonite?

I have a Mayo TNT (Stellite 6K) that's my primary EDC (except at work) and I use it for just about everything/anything. Another well known knife maker -- who carries a TNT, himself -- recommended not sharpening the blade, just stropping to touch up the edge. The TNT came, of course, sharp from Tom and after five months of use was still pretty sharp (not really shaving), with only the occasional strop on cardboard.

Last night I was trimming some cut flowers for my wife and got just about nowhere on a thick, woody, stem (cranberry, I think) with my TNT. I think the edge was just too polished. So, afterwords, I gave the edge just a couple of light strokes with a DMT fine diamond hone. Now, the edge is nice and grabby (shaves again, too :)).

So, bottom line: I was wondering what sort of edge other folks like to keep on Stellite/Talonite blades?

I strop my Talonite to a polished edge. I find that sharpening to a toothy edge can tend to leave a very nasty wire edge on the blade. Depending on the knife, some Talonite blades of mine tend to get a worse wire edge than others. I think it has to do with the blade grind in relation to the sharpener. My Talon and talonite EDC are very easy to sharpen, where my Mini-Talon always gets the wire edge from hell.

Where's a good resource for a strop?

I will eventually have to do this with my 6K TNT. This knife looks like the edge had a convex bevel to it, which I guess makes it very strong. The only other knife I have been exposed to that had this type of edge was from Jerry Hossum.

This TNT edge is one dangerously sharp edge, and I mean that in a good way. :)

Yeah, agreed..., I've had some fairly significant differences that I think are related to profiling on various Talonite/Stellite blades.

Surely there are more than three people on this forum who have sharpened a Stellite or Talonite blade?
