I will admit that I am not that great when it comes to sharpening or touching up my blades. I have been using an tri-hone arkansas stone set with ok results. I have a couple of the lansky kits, still no great results. So I want to know what you guys use, maybe even how you guys do it, to sharpen and touch up your blades. And lets not forget convexed edges....I have not even attempted sharpening one of those yet. I'm thinking I need a new sharpening system. I have heard a lot of good things about using sandpaper and mousepads for convexed edges... Anybody care share? If you have a little shapening kit or setup pics would be awesome. Thanks.

Here is the stone I use most. First on the page.

It is really easy to make your knife scary sharp.

Send to Siguy and few days later it comes back ready to cut. :D

Well, I was taking it to a couple guys to get it super sharp, Scott Gossman showed me his folding sharpener. I picked up a Smiths guided hone, and then got a Spyderco Sharpmaker. I was using an old belt scrap.

Now, I use the folding sharpener (picked one up at a show from Sharpshin Blades), use that for convex blades. The Sharpmaker gets everything else. Got a razor strop for Xmas, and, using jewelers rouge, I am able to get a great edge on my Ritter Grip. Among other steels. But, if I can get a great edge with S30V, then I guess I can get a good edge on anything, and pretty much have.

on the flat or scandi ground knives, i get by really well with just an arkansas stone and a strop loaded with buffing compound (the white stuff). i can get the scandis and the V's really sharp with that set up. convvexes i am not quite as good with. i use the standard mouse pad and sandpaper technique, with which i can get them hair popping, but not quite as good as the scandis and V's.

i have been using a leather strop to bring my edges back..... or my old faithful diamond rod has never let me down....

I just got some diamond stones to work the 3V steel on my Koster Bushcraft. It's going along fine and is pretty easy to do with the wide scandi bevel. That steel is just so darn hard!

I'm slowly learning how to use my Delta 1x42 sander to convex my knives. Once I work with all the cheap kitchen knives, I'm going to work the better knives in the house. I hope to get this skill under my belt and have some seriously sharp blades.

I used to use a Lansky with very good results. I've never been able to whittle hair, but my knives have been really nice and sharp and up to whatever task I've put them through. It just takes a lot of time with larger blades.

I use mostly sandpaper for convex and scandi's and the SharpMaker for v edges I also use the EdgeMaker Pro.
