What do you guys use for a strop? I use cardboard from a binder backing with rough side exposed loaded up with crest toothpaste. It works ok, but i was wondering what you guys for that final sharpening step.

My final 2 steps are a strop made of door separating cardboard from Lowe's (they give it away if you show up in the morning of a shipment), with a green wax-based buffing compound. I follow that with a couple rubs over my wallet to refine the edge a little more.

I use a Illinois "Russian" strop with linen de-burr side.

I use a old piece of stirrup leather and some mothers mag polish. Works great and gives you a nice sharp edge.

I use the back of a notebook carboard. Then I hang up an old pair of blue jeans on the hook on my wall and hold a leg and strop on the denim, then I set a strip of newspaper under something heavy on the edge of a desk and hold it up and strop on that to finish.

Seems to work good enough for my use.

Ma belt that was made in Mexico (made sure i found one made in the same place to replace my old one) works beautifully :D

An old leather belt with Stanley metal polish on the rough and a final polish on the smooth side.

A worn 1/2" x 12" Micro-Mesh belt loaded with Mother's Mag & Aluminum Polish on my Worksharp. Power strop baby:thumbup:. No need for 20 minute stropping sessions between various strops. Just 5 passes per side and I'm tree-topping my leg hairs.

i do use a leather strop with compound..... but recently ive found a technnique ive fallen in love with. as a final step, past all others, i will strop my knife on the actual brick of chromium oxide. polishes the edge to a mirror shine and gets it sharp enough to "shave the hairs of a flys nads" in about 3 passes on both sides. give it a try.

I use the same system except my leather is from a cut off piece of leather from a pair of Harley Davidson chaps..

I use a bench strop with about a 4" x 10" surface, butt leather loaded with diamond paste. Works good.

I have the Knives Plus strop, too, and it is great. I have made my own strops with leather and compound before, but the Knives Plus strop is so much better. And it doesn't cost very much, either.
