i wrote this on social media after releasing this gar, it went 7 foot 1 inch and was likely around 180 pounds
This feeling is hard to describe. Just released a 7 foot dinosaur back into a river it's species has called home for 147 million years. I'm sitting in a little cove i released her in just kind of pondering life. Sat here for 30 minutes almost, listening to the cars on The highway just a mile or two away not even caring 10 feet away I could have been in the shade. Solo the experience of catching a gar over 7 foot is hard to describe hopefully the video and pics do her justice. This is my 6th alligator gar over 100 pounds of the year and I'm going to say she was close to 180 pounds caught in a river not publicly known for having gar, she was released healthy to promote the longterm survival of the species.
Location is central Texas
the bait used is common carp
line used is 100# suffix performance braid
rod is an ugly stick
reel is a Okuma Trio BF 80
you will never see my kill an alligator gar on this channel i am 100% dedicated to promoting these fish's longterm survival, so they can grow and thrive for another 100,000,000 years.
do to the hard nature of targeting these fish and the proneness for people to kill them just to do it there is certain information im no longer going to be sharing in my videos. im comfortable showing just a little less if it means i can help protect these fish.
