I just picked up this Western Boulder 745, a knife made in the 1950's. 3 7/8" closed, california clip blade, a very nice old knife. I've always liked the slim look with this blade combination. This one has a concave ground spey blade, and a needle sharp punch. Easy access grooves in on both sides. Western made 5 different blade combinations for this pattern. This Western States Cutlery pattern dates back to 1919 at least.

Wow! That's a real treasure Hal!

I like the rounded bolster/California clip configuration. And your examples are great! Thanks for sharing.

Spectacular:thumbup: Love it, I was gifted a 742 but not as mint. Western's are gravitating towards me it seems b/c when ever someone finds a knife for me at an estate sale, it's usually a Western. The last month I've got two fixed blades and the 742.

Beautiful knives!

I only have one that fits the 3 7/8" with California clip, a recent Utica in green:

Not a bad knife for the price, though nowhere near as nice as yours.

The color on the Western is gorgeous...love it, makes me wonder what it looked like when new

Just a beauty Hal!! Hollow ground spey - like the surgical instrument it is!

Did you ever think it might be a Robeson subcontract? Hmmmmmmm?

The handles and punch suggest that to me.

Interesting Charlie - I know very little about Westerns and less that that about Robesons. The punch was ground to a pin point, just as depicted in the catalog drawing.

Sweet knife, looks as if it left the factory yesterday.
The slim profile is very appealing , I think I need to find me one

Hal.....

You always seem to find some of the best looking knives.................and rounded bolster just seem to make so a perfect pocket carry

Interesting in that old catalog that you could get the spey blade in regular length or long length. I wonder how popular an option the long blade was back when those were made.

A sharp pin-point like that, while needing to be used with care, makes it infinitely easier to start and control cutting a hole in leather. A great design, IMO!
I want to try it out!!
