Hey guys. I have a flashlight addiction. Not as many as some of you, but what I do have is quality. When I worked in a car garage I bought a stream light stylus pro due to my hatred for shop reel lights. I used the snot out if that light and it still works, but I wanted a new pen style light. I wore the rubber cap out and the lens was all scratched but it still functioned fine. I've dropped it straight to the floor and through engine bays. I had it in black and the black has worn off the last 3 years in a few spots. Now onto the preon. I love it! The 3 brightness settings are my favorite part of this light. 2 lumens for bedroom use. 22 lumens for engine bay work and 192 lumens for outdoors stuff. Great! The coating seems to be tough enough. It resides in my pocket next to either a spyderco military or lg cf seb 21. I love the aluminum tail cap cover, won't be wearing out anytime soon. Unlike the stream light, the pocket clip on this light won't come off with a pull. The only thing I don't like on the preon that I do on the stylus pro is the body. I don't like how the preon has a twisty head. I ended up loctiting it in place. Any questions from non owners feel free to ask. Oh, I almost forgot. The stylus pro has a poly lens and the preon has a glass lens. The stylus also has momentary on where as the preon doesn't. Both take 2 AAA cells.

Have you encountered any issues with accidentally actuating the tale switch on the preon?

That was my only beef with that light. I loved everything else about it but I lost count of how many times I would notice that the light was turned on in my pocket.

Nope. I wear it tucked on the innermost part of my pocket with the military or on the outside of the sebenza. Always away from the blade spine. No issues thus far. Worn it with dickies and timberland cargo pants only though. Don't know how jeans would do with it.

I was a flashlight nut before getting into knives, MTs, guns and Maxpedition gear. I have a couple of the Preons, along with a few Stylus Pro's and the Pro-tac 2AAA (the Stylus Pro's newer sibling). The latter light is my favorite of the bunch because of its high output (for a 2AAA), extended runtime and really firm clicky switch. I too have had probs with the Preons turning themselves on, because the switches are so light. You can convert it to a twisty light, but that requires two hands and I just don't dig it. The Preons are great lights though, but I think they really need a seriously firm clicky switch like the Pro-tac 2AAA. I would even carry the Stylus Pro (a very reliable, long-running EDC light) over the Preon, again because of the switch. The good thing is that there are plenty of lights in the 2AAA category that do the job, depending on what you are after.

I have the same issue with my preon turning on as well. I have the preon 2 with the tail switch at work, and I carry a preon 1 on my keys with no switch just the twisty. Very nice lights though. The p2's coating is pretty tough mine still looks in good condition for being a couple of years old.

Maybe the stylus pro clicks will fit the preon? I do like the preon switch though.

Yes, some people have done that. I don't own a stylus pro though and I'm not going to buy one just to be able to swap the switch with a preon.

Four sevens seems to be a very attentive company, I'm sure they'll correct the design at some point.

So far so good with the light. Let me ask you guys, when do you find yourself clicking on the light, if you notice at all?

Yes, some people have done that.

I tried it, but its not a drop-in thing, so unless I'm missing something, it would require some modding. Also, the Stylus Pro is a forward clicky, and the Preon 2 a reverse clicky.

I'm sure they'll correct the design at some point.

They are aware of it and haven't done anything about it, so I'm betting its going to stay like this. That's too bad, as I would really like a stiffer button. I am carrying my Preon 2 today, though, just to give it another ride. It does not get a lot of pocket time.

I love my stylus pro. I carry it as a backup light at work. Plenty bright. I carry its little brother all the time off duty, the Microstream. Also a wonderful little light.
