Prep screws for Gun Kote bake-on finish

I'm coating Alum scales with air brushed Gun Kote. They're adonized and ready to get coated. I want to prep the SS torx and pivot heads to match-without abrasive blasting 'em.
Etch 'em chemically? Do 'em with Scotchbrite? 400 grit paper?
What do you think?
