Conceptualized from our very own Crowinghorse's battlefield experience in Iraq comes his own, very special creation...the LANCE HAWK.

Inspired by the ancient Halberd, you don't want ANY part of this thing comin' at ya!

Steel: H-13
Thickness: 3/8th
OAL: 23.5"
Handle Length: 14.5"
Spear Length: 6.5"
Scales: Removable G-10

His battle cry when swinging it is something like this...YYYYYYYIIIIIIAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I think that's the same noise Justin uttered in the shop when he saw what he had to make by hand! ;)

Damn, that is HUGE. I can't imagine the force of impact on a full power stroke!
Very cool modern reinterpretation of an ancient design.

That thing is INSANE! I can see someone on the business end of that thing screaming in terror as they run the other way! Very cool!

Thanks, Andy and Justin, for posting the pics.
I have linked this page to some other interested folks on the axeforum.com and swordforum.com pages :D

The story of Lance Hawk:
I decided that with all the extra money the military was paying me for fighting in Iraq, I better spend it on something worthy ;) (and my wife only wanted to SAVE it all! HA HA HA  )

When not on watch in An Nasariyah, I drew up a design for a tomahawk. I wanted to add a little something extra, so I put the knife blade on top of the head and...

"WHALLLA!"

The lance hawk was born! I emailed digital pictures of the sketch from Iraq to Justin at ATC.

I was inspired by the look of quite a few ancient halberds:

and I wanted a tool that could both cut, pierce, and chop. I decided on 3/8" thick H13 after a few emails from Justin- good, tough steel at a thickness that is nigh indestructable (unless you cut it with a torch!)
The lance hawk has an RC of about 58 RC on the edges, 56 RC in the head, and 50 RC in the tang/handle.

This piece is an example of how talented and able ATC and Justin Gingrich are at making a reality out of anyone's design...
even one as funky as this one!

Thanks.
Sgt. Horse

I plan to use it boar hunting next year with my father and brother. Just have to find the time...(starting school again in January!)

Is there a pic of the sheath for this beast?! Boar hunting with it should be very cool! Those little piggies won't know what the hell to do when they see that! (They'll probably just drop dead from fear :D )

No sheath yet.
Justin has sent the beast off to have it engraved and a sheath made for it. Survival Sheaths is going to be making a kydex rig for it. It will be mountable on a backpack or on a strap. Using the strap, I can wear it across the back.

Wives have such miss-placed priorities!!!!!:barf:

You are right...she is a "beautiful monsters!" HA HA HA :D

Justin, Thanks again for making the hard look easy and the easy look...really easy!

Can't wait to get home and split some skulls...err...I mean wood!;)

Crowinghorse;
ADMIT IT!!!!! you wish you had that in Iraq, and how pretty it would look with saddam's head on the end of it!!!!;)

Ok, ok...it would have been cool! ;)

I had a hard enough time carrying the Brend though! The "higher ups" said I couldn't have it at first...then they said I could...then they said "NO" again! Finally convinced them it was ok cuz I showed them the edge and spike were both less than 3" long!:D

(can't carry a knife w/ a blade longer than 3"...even in the Corps! Have to check all knives w/ blades over 3" in and out of the armory! :( Sad but true!)

Can't imagine what they would have said had I brought the Lance Hawk!

Just remember the answer to the question:
What do you do with an 800 lb. gorilla in your living room??

Well,

I think Roberts first words when he sees what he has to make a sheath for are going to be "You HAVE to f*&^ing kidding me!"

I can't wait to see the rig to carry this beast.

Cool design Crowinghorse, nice grinding Justin!

-Robert

Your not kidding :D
I asked about how exactly the sheath would work, and if I remember right, Justin just said "We'll let Robert handle it." :D :D

I couldn't ask for a better guy to make the sheath though. Maybe eventually I will have a leather one made by someone (or make it myself) but concealex is so durable and easy to use, and Robert does such a wonderful job on each piece, I really can't wait to see what it looks like either.

God bless
Sgt. Horse
