Prepare to be envious

The mail came today and there was a package that I had being waiting. Opened the box and there it was. A real brute of a knife. The Buck Nighthawk Pigsticker. I have never been a real big fan of Bucks, I only own one, a Nighthawk. When I saw a picture of this one, I had to have it. I searched the web and the only ones I could find in the US were going for $250 to $300. A bit stiff for a production Buck. Finally found one half way around the world. The folks there were real nice and helpful and sent one out to me right away. This is a hefty piece. It has the standard Nighthawk handle attached to a thick well ground blade well suited to hunting feral hogs with( not that I have the cajones to do that). I am impressed with this offering from Buck. There are supposed to have been only 350 of them made and less than 100 are in the states. Nice addition to my rather eclectic collection.

Nice looking knife. I don't need a blade 7.5" (or more) long but I'm happy for you.

Not envious in any way as I have a few great large fixed blades, but it looks like a nice knife that I may be interested in down the road. Never heard of it until now.

Congrats. As long as you are happy with your new blade.

There were a few for sale in Australia at some point - they are big on sticking Down Under.

I remember when the Buck came out.

Its okay and I liked it back then but eventually passed on it, sine I once had a Nighthawk and wasnt thrilled.

I ordered a custom Lon Humphrey Bowie and use that for hog sticking. It works.

I got a plain Nighthawk many moons ago. It didnt have the holes in the blade as Ive seen on some versions (dont know when they changed the knife since I lost interest after owning one). I remember it as being not very exciting. Blade was nothing special IMO back then and the handle had a cheap(-ish) feel or look to it. I sold it.

Ergonomics were okay IIRC.

For a pig sticker, I use this;

Now go use the snot out of that Buck - it was what it was made for.

Well I cannot in good conscience be envious of someone
who has " never really been a big fan of bucks " plus you didn't post any pictures for us to be envious of.
As they say " pics or it didn't happen ".

Now bladescout on the other hand I can be envious of, that's one gorgeous knife and I'm sure it has gathered some really tasty bacon.

Knoife! :p

Bladescout and hickory,
I didn't post any pictures because I have no idea how to. I do thank you for being so cordial and friendly!! I can only hope others treat you in the same fine gentlemanly manner! I'm sure your Mama's are real proud of your manners.

Since you direct a post at me:

I told you my honest opinion since I had a Nighthawk once and the sticker and the Nighthawk shares elements.

I even posted a pic link, since you didnt.

I was not impressed by the knife and passed on the Buck Pig Sticker because one can get some real nice blades for the money. I really really like pig stickers and actually use the stickers for their intended purpose.

Dont know what your problem is - no reason to throw a tantrum just because you post, that we should be envious of a Buck, which you dont show a pic of and from a manufacturer, you dont really like anyways - you obviously expected adoration.

Sorry to not accomodate you.

How ever, please discuss the knife.

You could bring up the ergonomics and how you find the balance etc and discuss this and the points raised.

You chose not to for some reason.

This will be my last post in this thread debating this non-issue.

Feel free how ever to make it about the knife (you know, like I do in that post you quote).

As for how to post pics (and the rules), its all in the stickies - read them. Its VERY simple to post pics for example via imgur.

Takes but a minute or two. If I can do it, you can do it.

'How to' sticky in Tech Support:

You are welcome.

PS Word of advice: Dont bring family into the debate, pls.

create an account on imgur , upload an image and copy the url that says ``BB Code (message boards and forums)`` and paste that link here...if done correctly it should look a little bit like this.....:)

Damn. Now that's a knife ;)

No cajones needed, the catch dog has plenty. Born and raised in Florida sticking hogs from a early age. The Nighhawk is perfect, but so is moms steak knife.

I would think a knife with basically no guard would be a terrible choice? Bladescout's knife looks like it would be a far better choice since I would imagine you are stabbing with good force and may have to contend with a wet handle - both good recipes for running your hand up the blade.

My grandma found one (nighthawk) abandoned on a rock at a local fishing spot when I was 9-11? (elementary school) :) First time I felled a tree by batoning chips out of the trunk. :D
