Hey everyone,

A week or so ago I reached out to Larrin about testing some BG-42 as I'm very interested in getting some actual toughness and CATRA data for the steel. Larrin told me that if I prep some toughness and CATRA coupons for him he'd be happy to test the steel. He provided me with some information and dimensions that the CATRA and toughness coupons need to be in order to be tested. It looks like the tolerances are pretty exact. I am looking for advice on how to prep these coupons. I have a surface grinding attachment for my grinder, but not an actual surface grinder. Can I achieve the required tolerances with it or will I just be wasting my time?

Any tips, tricks, and advice welcome!

For data used for quality control like batch to batch comparison, I'd see no reason a repeatable setup on a belt grinder would not be acceptable.
For data used to compare to his other testing results it would probably be in your best interest to get it as accurate as possible. If you want to send some coupons to PA I can grind them for you. We've been making coupons for batch to batch comparisons on our surface grinder.

I'm gonna do some more reading on the subject, but I may take you up on that offer!
