This is a present for my uncle on his retirement.
He worked for 47 years as an toolmaker technologist and he asked me to make a kitchen knife from the plain carbon steel … go figure.
Japanese laminated steel: Shiro Gami (White Paper Steel) in the core and 11 layers of low carbon steel on each side.
This steel is moving very easy under the hammer so I was able to forge it pretty close to the final shape.
Cocobolo and horn ferule handle
Blade is 7’’ long 12’’ overall
Thanks for looking

Oh man, that is sweet! Your uncle is going to be very pleased and proud. I really enjoy seeing projects like this, that are for a fine gift and are so well executed. He's going to be very happy and spend a lot of time in his kitchen! :D Thanks for sharing,

Very , very , nice work ! I love that Blade steel , never heard of it before and would like to see more of it .

Thanks for the kind words guys!
I ordered this steel from Germany - dick.biz , this steel is not listed on there website , however I can find catalog number if somebody is interested.
The steel cost was 48 EUR for 1000x33x5.5 (in millimeters) and shipping to US was 38 EUR.
