Hello Gentlemen, this time showing pictures of a presentation bowie.
The request originated from a bowie of similar design in a book published so the client wanted and suggested doing something similar, a proposal that will gladly accept.
It is a classic English style bowie knife although all of ladder pattern damascus. All the pieces came from the same billet of W1 and 15n20. Structurally consists of hidden tang blade, guards, collar and false frame, the frame is welded to the hidden tang and then placing the other two pieces in place in the frame.
One detail to consider is the collar which is not made from a thick piece of damascus but four pieces of the same ladder that the whole body welded to each other, so that when looking at the spine show that the sinusoidal lines continuous across the entire structure of the knife.
The handle assembly is complex, since it is first necessary to reveal the damascus pattern in the blade, guards and collar, after mounting the scales and adjust to the frame and the collar and then dismount to reveal the damascus pattern in frame and the collar worked in the format and again set the scales in the correct position that matches perfectly with frame.
Finally comes the assembly of the scales of ivory. Pins are riveted gold on request.
It is complemented by a classic leather sheath with silver hardware made by David Saco.
Finally has a box of solid wood, veneered in cohiue with black velvet interior.
Hope you enjoy the photos. Thanks for looking.

From the pics the fit and finish is excellent .. First rate workmanship from the case to to the Knife design. Beautiful classic Bowie. The guard in my humble opinion could be a little thinner but that would depend on how it feels:thumbup: Great Knife

Forget what I said about the guard thickness the more I look at it the more I like it

that is just unfreakingbelievable craftsmanship!
My hat is off to you!
amazing...

ps. the sequencing of your photos really builds up the excitement. You are obviously a very savvy fellow!

It looks like the guard and blade are about the same thickness, which is OK as far as I am concerned. The knife and sheath show outstanding workmanship. That is a beautiful presentation box. I Like the whole package very much.

Very nice...I like the damascus and the way you matched the "grain" to the handle. The only thing I'm not really sure about is the shape and thickness of the guard, but for a true evaluation I should be able to handle the knife. Overall a great package.

Marcel

I'm really impressed with your work. Always elegant and well executed.
As others, I would only question the guard. I don't necessarily believe it too thick but rather the edges too square.
The handle, ferrule and sheath are nicely rounded/contoured making the guard seem "out of place".

Really like the pin placement, the complementing damascus patterns, the sheath and the box completes an exquisite presentation.

Very nice presentation package overall. Knife, sheath and presentation box all combine to make a special combination for the lucky buyer.

The guard looks fine to me. I don't see a straight line on it anywhere, so it sure doesn't look square to me. Seems to fit the overall design of the knife quite well.

Congrats on a job well done and keep up the good work.

Beautiful work. Everything looks extremely well made, the presentation box, the bowie and the sheath. The damascus is exceptionally nice.

In case there’s anyone in addition to Roger who didn’t understand my post, I will define it in greater detail. :)
I meant square as in the guard flats (flat area, one facing the handle the other facing the blade) being square (at right angles) to the guard edge.

If the guard edge was contoured or slightly rounded it would make the guard appear less thick to the eye, and the contoured edge would follow and complement the contoured edges of the handle, sheath and ferrule. The Terry Vandevender guard from a Chuck Ward photo depicts what I mean by contouring the guard edge.

This is of course just my opinion and not meant to diminish Marcial's beautiful and well executed knife package. However thought it relevant to the discussion since the guard has been mentioned several times.

I have always been impressed with the pics of Marcial´s work. Last year at the SPKS I could finally appreciate one of his pieces in my hands and have to tell you that they are even better than they look in the pics.

I like the way Terry did his guard on his knife. I like the way Marcial did his guard on his knife.

Roger

Kevin I see your point . Man I feel bad I was the first person to post and mention that the guard to me looked abit thick and I should not have mentioned it the last thing I wanted to do was degrade this thread in any way .This is fantastic work and a real pleasure to see such craftsmanship. I am sure that this knife well exceded your customers expectations and is a true heirloom piece. I know it woulld be for me

Gentlemen, we all agree, the weather is warm but a bit cool ...
Joking aside we greatly appreciate your very kind comments and points of views, they are necessary, in addition to welcome, to note that there are several possibilities to perform a piece like this so much as any other.
I feel sorry for not being at your level of language because via translator lacking words to thank you.
Again thank you very much.
