Greetings all,

Just thought I'd share my latest arrival. A matched set of camp knife and hunter has been a favourite commission of mine over the years, but it's been a while since I've ordered a set. But that's just what I had in mind when my slot in the books came up with Wess Barnhill.

We went back and forth with some different designs before settling on this elegant clip point recurve. Wess' skills as an engraver are perhaps well known than his insanely clean fit and finish, so I thought this would be a good opportunity to showcase that element and give what is otherwise a highly functional and ready-to-work camp set a bit of a premium lift.

Handle material is single large block of walnut from my personal stash. I definitely feel that it was put to good use here.

And this is a total sole authorship package. Those sheaths may look like Paul Long's work (which is high praise in and of itself) but were crafted entirely by Wess.

Hope you enjoy the look - I certainly couldn't be more pleased with the outcome.

Awesome set Roger! I'm a big fan of Wess' work. I saw this on Instagram and did not realize Wes was such a talented engraver as well.

don't I know you from somewhere? :)
glad to see you still have excellent taste in knives

I was already aware of Wess' skills in bladesmithing and leather. What I *wasn't* aware of were his exemplary talents on engraving.

Now I know!

Thank you BOTH for this opportunity. :)

The first time I saw photos of Wess Barnhill's work was when you posted about him a few years ago, Roger. I'm glad you did, because his work is always a pleasure to look at. This set is yet another fine example. Congrats on the acquisition and thanks for sharing it here!

Awesome Roger! Cool to know you commissioned that set. By the way, I should have a nice recurve hunter in the works soon. Cough cough, San mai! :)

The engraving makes these pieces, for me. Wonderful!

Is that the walnut from the big block, Rog?
