What exactly is "Presentation grade Ironwood" and how does it differ from other grades?
Thanks

Small wood plates come in varying degrees of "niceness" basically. Ironwood is just one type of wood often used for this kind of stuff, along with Cocobolo, Rosewood, other fancy stuff that looks really nice as a knife handle, pistol grip, etc.

Presentation grade is the nicest of them all, it means nice looking grain, the sides match well, no rot spots, or other imperfections. This is what to buy when you want it to look really nice with your 800$ fixed blade. Or with your 50$ home-made FB.

It has the best figure and highest contrast. It is also the most expensive.

thanks for the warning and reminder, mayo....

Here are some pics of some presentation grade ironwood I have (waiting to be put on a large knife):

The second picture is a detail taken very close-up of the block in the first pic. See the tiny burls? (dark rings) Each of those is about a pencil-lead width in diameter. Super fine grain. The more detailed/intricate - the higher the price. Also, larger sizes drive the cost up. This one is 2.5x2.5x6.5.

Daniel if you like I will hold that Ironwood for you , you know for 'safe keeping' :D
Seriously though there is a guy on ebay who sells some beautiful ironwood , some of it isnt so fancy and some of it is , the price isnt too bad either I think.
