I've got a few old axes hung on handles that still have labels. Due to their age, I want to leave the labels in place (Removing them would probably destroy them).
Some things I was thinking:
Heavy lacquer layer in that area. Its above my 'hand zone', so I could still have a nice handle feel, but unprotected they would probably get rolled off through other hand action on the haft.
Packing tape and heat gun: I've seen decals be heated and pulled off their surface and 'laminated' with clear tape. That would preserve the labels, but remove them. Then I could relocate them a bit and go back to the first approach, lacquering the whole thing, or just hang them like tags off the hafts while they're displayed.
Any other ideas? How do you user-lectors go about this? Seems a shame not to fling chips with these splendid rehangs, even tho I don't have much need of it. Plenty of users around, ya know?
