Preserving sheep handles

If it's anything like water buffalo horn, try something with lanolin-- Hooflex, a commercial hoof dressing for horses works well. You can also get pure lanolin at a pharmacy. Alberto VO5 also has a pretty high lanolin content.

My guess would have been mineral oil as well.

Thats what they recommend on ivories.

Someone should ask Ed Fowler who watches this forum. His handles are ramboille [ spelling?] sheep horn.

I haven't touched mine up at all since I got it from Ed, but I think he might be the one to ask.

I just apply mineral oil a couple of times a year and then put on a coating of Ren Wax. It works great for me.

I leave the mineral oil on for a couple of hours and then wipe the handle. Then I let it sit for another hour or so, after which I apply the Ren Wax.
