Well I'm not gonna finish the press this time in, have to head out tomorrow night, but have all the main asemblies tacked in place and just need to finish the guid, stress welding, plumbing and dies.

What are the normal die sizes for flatting/welding? I'm figureing on 3" by 4" primarily for welding and flatting after the drawing dies.

Thanks

That would be about right Will. Mine are 2''X5'' and I use them for welding and drawing. If I used my press more I would have more and different dies but I do most of the work with my Little Giant which has 3''x6'' dies.

Thanks, just wanted to be sure I wasn't going to big.

Ray I never went, sent the money for the work shop and two days later it got cancelled.:grumpy: The shop where it was gonna be held sent the money back quikly though. Seems there were only 6 people signed up for it. I realy like the tire hammer design, but they still haven't got plans avaible and the next workshop is in Feb. and unless my schedual changes I'll be on the water. That's why I'm building a press. I would prefere a hammer but a press would realy help with damascus and I was planning on building one eventualy. The lack of a good hammer just means I get the press first. I have thought about taking a tape measure to a little gaint, but it would still take a good bit of trial and error on my own.
