Pretty nifty idea eh !

I've seen them in my local Sports Authority. Bah, I have the same thing homemade...cost less and I am sure of each and every componet.

Just a fancy pre-made PSK.

It'd make a great gift that's for sure. At ~6oz it weighs about the same as a mid sized fixed blade which is pretty cool. I've got plenty of that stuff already though, so I wouldn't get one for myself.

I'll give them an A for effort :), but appears to be a little "plasticky" for my liking- I'd be a little fearful of attached items falling off and I'm not real convinced on the knife/whistle/led affair

It looks good on a screen. Haven't handled one personally to really make a good judgement on it though.

I like the MacGuyver aspect of it  AMK does come up with some cool stuff though.

Those caught my eye when they first came out. I have built several kits of my own, but I have bought a couple of the other AMK kits for my wife's car and I like how they are put together, especially the Doug Ritter PSK. I like several of the AMK products, I may have to check one of these out. I have been waiting to see what the actual price would be, the last I had heard was an estimate.

Hmm, that is pretty neat actually. I've got most of that stuff packed in my kit already but it'd be a nice thing to give as a gift for someone or to throw in a car kit.

Knowing what's in a kit and how to use it is more valuable than a ready-made gadget in a glove box.
That's the problem with any pre-made kit: will they remember it's there when they need it?

I recommended it to my father and mother as they do combined hunts out west every year. They have "kits" but I think for them this would be an ideal thing to have with them and the price point is very doable.

I'm really not a fan of kits like this. A false sense of security. Gotta' carry a knife, (multiple) ways to make a fire, signaling methods, etc. But I think these kits are a poor and very limited substitute. I want my 'survival' gear to be my everyday gear, a firesteel used to get the oatmeal cooked is also used to get an emergency fire going. The knife you used to cut your bannock and clean your fish is now used to harvest poles for your shelter and shave down to get some dry wood. When I need a whistle it needs to be right out on my PFD not buried in a pack or pocket. If I had one of these kits on me, it would never be touched!

Agreed.... I would want to see it to pass any judgment on it's "usefulness".

The main problem I see is I have a kit very similar to that...... at about half the cost. The biggest expense is the Otter Box I use to carry it in.
