preventing rust on 1095

You might try carnauba wax or an expensive wax that museums use by the name of Renaissance Wax. -Guy Thomas

Flitz will indeed prevent corrosion from setting in. After polishing, a film is left on the surface and is said to protect for up to 6 months. Flitz will also remove surface rust and corrosion. Flitz is used in the firearms industry and has proven excellent in similar applications. Most notably on blued firearms without harm to its finish whatsoever!

ex,
Nakano is correct to a point, (pun not intended). Flitz is probably the best all around polish out there. I have used it for years, (about 15). It is NOT a good preservative though. You MUST apply it on a regular basis. It will NOT protect for six months as advertised but if applied every couple of months, it will protect. It is also VERY easy to use which is a big plus. My method of protecting knife steel, (especially carbon), is to give your knife a thorough wipe down with Flitz. Polish it off and then give the knife a good rubbing with Renaissance Wax and then polish that off. An occasional wipe/polish with Flitz, will keep your carbon steel knife looking good. About every third or fourth time add a coat of Rebaissance Wax. Renaissance Wax really shines, (pun INTENDED), when used for polishing woods, and especially for leather and stag.

I am thinking about Parkerizing some blades, but shiny metal has it's attraction
