I got in a collection of WWII knives to list on consignment. Along with this collection there is one authentic Collins #18 knife carried by a Raider in WWII. This is not one of the multitude of Collins 18s out there because this was one of the "20+?" known examples of the knife that were issued and actually carried by the Raiders. This knife is marked with the number in a crude manner on the blade and this knife has been verified and personally examined by Mr. Silvey; who confirms there is nothing to suggest the knife is not what it is represented as.
This knife was purchased by my client from a friend of the Raider who has paperwork and articles supporting everything.
I have seen intense speculation about the value of these knives as well as how many of the original issued batch survived and are known to exist.
Any help with the number of these potentially out there as well as a general idea on price (I realize it could be all over the place but a ballpark would be helpful).
Thank you all! I will try to post pictures up soon.
