what would a Gerber Australian Bowie (bought before the name change "Utility Bowie") be worth? the knife has been used, but is in good shape, it has light scratches on the blade, nothing beyond typical wear. it does not come with a box, but does have the original sheath althought the "alice" clip was removed.

thanx, in advance, to anyone who can appraise it.

Did you search completed auctions on ebay so see if any sold?

not ebay (i'll do that), but i did search for ones for sale and all i found was one. it had already been sold and the price wasn't listed, it just said "sold" where the price would be, which seems to be more and more common :(

Hi Zignal,

Sold one NIB, with Hypalon handle for a friend last year on eBay. It was in great condition and even had the factory edge intact. It went for $175 to a guy that had 12 in his collection. When I was researching the value of the knife, pre-auction, I remember seeing some NIB that had gone for as high as $210. In used condition, YMMV.

It's hard to give you a more definitive answer without pictures, but hope that gives you some idea of the upper end of it's market value.

Regards,

Taylor

Hey Zignal, no problem at all. It's nice when my spotty memory actually fires on all cylinders these days.

Here's a link to a very accurate description of the knife I sold for my buddy.

If I remember correctly, I learned that the handle was made of compressed Hypalon from the internet when we sat down to research the specs. Again, if recollection serves, it had a fairly solid rubber feel to it. Sort of like a horse stall mat.

That's all I got brother.
