I’ve got a local friend who picked up a Spyderco PM2 crucible special edition (link below) from the recent drop. The red is a bit much so he’s considering selling/trading it to me. I was wondering what a fair price would be? I know it sold out in under an hour and some of these sprint runs can go for quite pretty penny (I’ve seen 2-3x the sale price on some). I don’t want to screw my buddy, nor do I want to get gouged. What would be a high but reasonable price for this?

Thanks all for the help!

Personally, I sell to my buddies at cost plus shipping if applicable. They are my buddies.
That’s 100% fair. I do the same. But since I’m buying I want to pay him what I’d be able to reasonably get for it if I decide it’s not for me and I want to move it. That way I break even and if anyone makes any coin it’s him for being quick on the draw.

Ask him what he wants ☺️

After tax, I paid $307.00

They sold out in 12 minutes. Offer him $350. That way he is getting back what he paid, plus a “convenience” fee. You get a rare knife that won’t be released again, and there is still a lot of meat on the bone in the event you sell it in the future.

You could give him cost+shipping or add on a little bit for good vibes, and then cut him in if you do wind up flipping it for a profit. That way nobody loses.

I find that I don't really like having collectible knives I feel weird about using, but, that's just me.
I think that’s his and my point. We’ll see how I feel in a couple weeks with having a collector’s piece sitting in my knife roll. 😅

I think that’s fair. Tbh, I want him to do well, but I don’t want to pay so much that if I end up selling it I’ll be negative.

It sounds like you're trying to predict where the market will go on this knife should you decide to sell it in the future. Good luck with that...the local meteorologist can't even reliably tell me if it's going to rain this afternoon.

I would try to step back from the "I don't want to lose any money on this" perspective, come up with a price that you feel comfortable with (whatever price that is), make an offer and see if he takes it. I have sold MANY knives and usually take a hit on them, but I just look at that as the "fee" for having gotten to hold, handle, and own them. Whatever happens, do not let this stuff impact your friendship with your buddy.

So, did some digging. Apparently a couple have sold for $750. I can’t swing that, but he’s a homie and wants to give me a shot at it. So, I think I’ll offer him in the ballpark of $350 with the agreement that if I keep it we’ll hold there, but if I end up selling it I’ll slide the profits less shipping to him.

Seems reasonable...your plan, that is.

However, that any of those would ever sell for $750 is way beyond absurd. Wow.

Guess you didn't want the knife as you appear to be selling it for a significant markup on the Exchange. Hopefully your "homie" gets a good cut of that. Good luck with the sale. 🤔

Personally, this all feels very much like no "homie" existed at all, and you were just trying to put out feelers for what you'd be able to flip this knife for.

homie told me to do whatever I want with it. He’s going to get either the difference, or if I end up trading it I’ll pay him based on the trade. You do realize that I’m a big boy and if it were my knife I could have easily just asked here what “hey guys. Snagged this. What’s it worth?” Like I’m probably going to do with the Magnamax MT I got in a couple months.

I appreciate you letting folks know you'll be attempting to flip another rare knife for a tremendous profit. Good luck with it.

Nothing to see here. Let's move along.
