Price deletion question

Just a quick question on price deletion when an item sells.
I'm old (was selling guns on the internet back in the 90s) and don't understand this practice.
It seems like a forum this large would attract more members if it was a de facto clearinghouse for knife prices. Heck, I checked here to see what some of mine were worth and found it pretty frustrating that all the hits I got had SPF or something where the price was.
It also seems that if this is a true community, folks wouldn't want people posting their knives for sale for too little based on ignorance, nor would they want folks paying too much when the info could be available with a quick search of recent sales. I understand marking them sold, just not deleting the price.
Again, I'm new here, but just wonder.

I had read the rule, but simply didn't understand the practice by what seems to be the vast majority of sellers of actually deleting it.
Heck, what's negotiated privately is private, but we always left up the asking price on the gun boards for reference.
Just a different mindset, I guess.

Thanks for the reply.

When I sell a knife here I delete the price so if the buyer wants to re-list it at some point they can set what they feel is a fair price. Then they do not have to deal with buyers who would be able to refrence what they originally paid.Knives do increase in value, sometimes quickly especially if a maker dies or retires.

Having said that I agree with your original comment because I have often wanted to try and determine what a knife is worth or what I should offer a seller. I have been frustrated when I could not find a price on a comparible knife that had sold but that is why I try to educate myself on knife values.

For instance,I just recently started collecting Busse knives but there are so many different models and variations that it has taken alot of research for me to begin to feel comfortable making an offer on some knives.

The good thing is the bladeforums community is a great place and most members would gladly tell you what your knife is worth if you ask. There are forums here to ask those questions and get answers from some people I consider experts.
