Go to:

http://www.nordicknives.com/front.html

then click on the button in the column on the left where it says "Customn Knives by Category". When the category page loads, select "fighters". when the picture loads, look in the right hand row of pictures and go about 4 pictures down. It's #CF-12. They want (US$)Twenty-nine-ninety-five for it. Eleven inch blade ( 4" companion ) - well, look for yourself.

Not even if the blade was made of gold....
It must be a joke, who would pay that price for that ugly "wannabie".And the scabbard is an insult to the sarkis....

That's my point

I don't care for the looks of it either nor the price, but Phil makes some of the most "bomb proof" knives and swords in the world.

That does seem a little spendy.

Is that blade forged or ground? It doesn't have the nice fullers I'm used to seeing on HI blades. Maybe I'm baised, but the HI's have a nice look to them.

It is stock removal A2. I would really be curious to see the Kamis reaction to this blade. Give it to them to use for awhile, get their comments and then tell them the price.

Many people do put his blades up there in terms of cutting ability and durability. However the price is decently high and you are seeing a lot of inflation due to name status.

P.Hartsfield blades do perform, but I can't justify the asking price. I guess people with money can afford it. His blades are not very graceful or pleasing to the eye though. On his swords, the hamon is just cosmetic and also the chisel grind edge is so-so. He claims that certain swords were made that way, but as far as I can tell, only kitchen or work blades were made with the chisel type edges.

Imagine how many H.I. Khukuris we can all get with the amount of cash P.H. wants for his blades. A plus side would be the Kamis in Nepal. They will be set for a while!

Yeah, it would have to be one helluva performer to even begin to compare with the $$$ chip per chop of a regular HI Khukuri let alone a village model.

But you wouldn't have to worry about the butt cap.

As if there were any doubt that HI khuks are the world's greatest buy in a big, handmade knife.
I've seen PH's knives and swords touted in the cutlery magazines for years and have remained unimpressed. A triumph of advertising and snob appeal over basic utility and true value. Hartsfield isn't alone...there are lots of others churning out stuff like his: not fancy enough to be art, not that much better than a well-made factory blade. It's the same reason that a Wilson or Clark or Baer .45 costs about 5 times what a home-smithed one does. You find the same syndrome operating in the fields of musical instruments, with ordinary guitars from one of the world's largest factories selling for the same price as a custom luthier's, because of the name on the headstock.
Brand position and name recognition are things that are overridingly important to some people, and some of those people have money. They are Hartsfield's and Wilson's and Baer's etc. natural clientele.
I'm sure they derive great satisifaction from being members of such an exclusive group. As for me, I'll take HIKV!

So I says to myself "Mike, these guys don't mind forking out a little cash for a good blade. $30 bucks for a khuk is chump change. What's the big deal?"
Oh my!!! I was missing a few zeros! Well, it looks like an ok knife but for 3 grand I can buy a LOT of real khuks with maybe enough $ left for a good rifle.
I'm sure the man makes a good blade but it's kinda ugly.
