Is it just my perception? Has anyone else noticed the high prices for Microtech, Strider, Busse and Merxworx? I am in the manufacturing end and happen to know what it cost to build the CNC machined knives. The only reasonable priced knives have not yet run from Microtech, the new MTX2 and the CMTX5, coming soon. I must say though that Microtech has provided high quality custom Eagle sheaths with their new HALOS, just released 10/06. That's a relief not to have to scratch the body of a new HALO with the kydex sheath. ARE WE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR PRODUCTION KNIVES? Let's hear the horror stories. I can have a custom for what a 150.00 cost knife is selling for, between 500-600.00 believe it or not.
Thanks,
Ixsnay.

Hmmm, let's see did you consider that selling a product must also cover the cost of:

taxes
insurance
health care
electricity
rent/building
labor costs
shipping
advertising
research
development
etc.
etc.
etc?

I would think that would be true of even CRKT and Gerber.

Yep, the cost of shipping and warehouse lighting is the exact same for sub-$50 knives as for high-end production folders. What's not the same, the cost of hype, the false aura of exclusivity, and the rate of profit per-knife.

I don't mind paying good money for knives, but I won't overpay.

Still, it's a desicion that every business in every sector of the market must make - a balancing between volume of sales and profit per item. Sell 10 knives at $10 profit each, or make $100 profit on a single knife.

If you really like the design of a perticular knife, to me, the knife is worth almost any price within reason.
