prices of the trainers

I was reading the new issue of Tactical Knives the other day, and read the article on the new Gunting. I noticed the retail price of it, and feel that it's a good deal, even at full price, but then I noticed that it said MSRP of both the "live" knife and the trainer are the same. Then looking at a catalog, I found that the Endura and Delica trainers cost the same as the "live" versions. I was just wondering if there were some way to manufacture the trainers in such a way as to make them less expensive? I can understand that it's necessary to get as close as you can to the real knife, and that their quality is just as good as the sharp versions, but why pay as much for something that can't be used in a function besides training? Just curious.

If you are a practising martial artist, then you will use your training knife far more frequently than the live one. Thus the quality of the trainer is paramount -- particularly if it is going to be used for sparring.

Ah..... that does make perfect sense. Never thought about it that way before.I can definitely see why you'd need a tough trainer now. Thanks for the info Carlos.

They are all kind of exspensive, but can you really put a price on training that may someday save yours or a loved ones life???

I have been banging my Gunting Drone consistantly for several months. It is in as good condition as ever. Hard openings would count as "abuse" on many other designs. The quality of this trainer is tops. And worth every penny. (plus you don't have to sharpen them.

I have many more trainers than live blades as well.

Train safe.

Everyone has made pretty good points about the trainers. I was also thinking of something else, if someone lived in a jurisdiction that didn't allow concealed carry of knives, could they carry the trainers as impact weapons? Kinda far fetched i guess..

Actually you are "right on." There will me an intermediate version called the CRMIPT, Close-Range-Medium-Impact-Tool, with the live Gunting's sharp-horned handle and the trainer's "blade." It will have blue G10 handles to differentiate from the others.

As Steve and others have already said: actually the trainer Drone can be both trainer and impact tool..very perceptive of you!!!...Us Guntaholics like it when someone sees the potential..
Functional trainers are identical to the real things except for the blade..and as much work goes into it as the live cuting blade. Its almost more important than the live knife!OK it is..

The trainer as others have said is your best friend..gets a ton of use and abuse and in so doing may actually save your life and train your muscle memory to do so as needed at a moments notice..
not bad for the price of a knife..

You'll use the trainer Drone all the time..the live one occasionally or never as a self-defense tool..

have a great day!
