I've had time to stalk the BINs on the Bay for the past couple of weeks......

It seems to me that a lot of the prices being asked are significantly MORE ridiculous than usual.

Anybody else noticed?

Or am I just getting older, greedier and crankier??

(Probably shouldn't have offered that option.)

:)

No, it is true. I think it is because of the fricken fees that Ebay and Paypal charge nowadays so people are trying to sell something and still make alittle bit of profit but at the same time have to cover all the fees involved. It is bad.

No comment on whether or not you are older, greedier and crankier! LOL

They have been way high....then slowly get lower on the re-listing. However, many never get lowered to the correct market price for today's economy.

Been watching 112's... They are too high lately... At the prices lately am considering (Big river in Africa) Etc. And going new for my projects.

I think the biggest problem is all of the buy it now listings. It only costs 20 cents per 30 days to list an item this way so it seems like guys can ask whatever they want and hope some moron comes along and pays there price. I think its hilarious some of the prices people want. For instance i wanted a couple Eskabars recently and found prices of $50 + but after 90 seconds of scrolling i found 2 for $66 shipped.

Yeah......and part of it may be that sellers who have been holding back due to the economy are thinking maybe the economy is getting a little better and they're starting to put some good stuff out again--and they are (too?) optimistic about what people will pay.

But I don't think the economy knows that it's better yet and I don't think it's much better either although the media seem to be trying to say that things are better.

When I get time I'm going to go through the completed listings and see if I can tell how often people are paying the high prices.

Yes, it seems that e-Bay now wants to make more from selling fees and less from listing fees.....so that's a change in marketing methods that WILL encourage higher prices asked.

Exactly, Ebay will let you list for nothing or next to nothing because they want the fees you get from selling the item plus they get the paypal transaction fee too so it is beneficial for them to give you "free listing" when they know if sold, they will clean up!!

And it is true, people are believing the hype that the economy is getting better so they are putting their items at a higher price than before.

Yeah, funny thing about the media saying the economy is getting better, it isn't true. They can say it all day long, but I could say I was a T-rex too, they're both lies...

The economy is better for me. I'm starting a new job soon. I think it is indeed better overall, but the recovery is slow and uneven. We're in a hole created by 30 years plus of bad policy, much of which is ongoing. There won't be any quick improvement.

$20.00 Profit not worth my time to sell it!!! Who is getting rich?

The answer is EBAY.

Still, all things considered, if looking for older hard to find items, for most of us there aren't many other options. We do have a choice of not buying.

Exactly. With ebay raising fees, they raise prices which will effectively raise the market prices I think!

Does Ebay really get a 13% fee on items and a 5% fee for PayPal??

I didn't know it was that high!!

True. I'd be pretty darn bored without e-Bay to peruse.

Cheap entertainment and if I buy it's probably going to be one of the very few bargains that turn up.

Actually, not quite that high but close. Realistically, it is almost 10% Ebay fees and 3 1/2 % Paypal but the idea is definately correct. Sell a $100 item and by time all fees and shipping is paid, you end up with about $80-85 tops left so that example isnt that far off, give or take a couple of bucks.
