Prices?

I'm a big fan of automatics. Pro Tech etc. As you know, they are not on the low end of the price scale. While just looking around the web I saw a Cold Steel 1860 US Heavy Caliber Saber with steel sheath. I watched a video made by Cold Steel in which they cut a hog carcass in half plus various other tests. Not a sword collector, I am not schooled in quality swords of that type but the video impressed me. The price of the sword was $289.00. Considering all that would go into the making of the sword and sheath how can they market it at that price? Higher end pocket knives go for that much money. I wondered why it looks like a lot more value in the sword compared to a pocket knife of equal price. What variables would go into the pricing of both types such as demand, materials and other things I have not thought of. Thank you for all of your opinions, Larry.

Made overseas.

You will find that the cheap swords are ornamental and often light with cheap metal. The using swords that are inexpensive are generally fairly heavy for their size in relation to the better stuff. Being imported is not necessarily a bad thing when it comes to swords.

Yeah, I'm not a Cold Steel basher but a sword for 250 is probably meant mainly for display somewhere, occasionally taken down to make a video of cutting a hog in half. Then it should be cleaned and returned to the wall....

I have a Cold Steel Cutlass which I picked up for $100. Seen them go for as much as $300. Just wanted it. No earthly need for it. Price wise I did really well, but it was still $100 flushed down the drain.

Cold steel swords can be used. They are more than a step above an import wallhanger ninja blade.
