weird. it doesnt designate anything like a 900 series knife that i can see. it's definitely a cqc7, here's a crappy shot of the other side of the blade..........QUOTE]
Hmmm,
Doorkicker, does it have "CQC7" on it somewhere? I would stand corrected if, somewhere on the knife, it says CQC7. If it doesn;t, then it's a 970. Those Benchmades from pre-1997 (Emerson) didn;thave a "model number" on the blade like they do now. I mean, some of the other models might have, but not the 970 series.... at least, not the 975.
Brand new, in 1996 (sometime between Feb and June), mine cost $120 (I'm pretty sure anyway).
Wow. I just scrolled up and looked at your second photo a little closer. It's blurry, but it looks like maybe it says "CQC7" at the end of the line under Emerson. Hmmmmm. Close Quarter Combat 7. I'm still pretty positive that it's Benchmade's model 970 even though Emerson, who designed it, (and who stills makes a CQC7 so he must have taken the model name with him), may have submitted the design to BM as a "CQC7" and then they gave it their own model number.
Check with BM. My money is on: "BM970". Very interesting. Please keep me posted if you wouldn;t mind.
