okay ill try to pout as much info as possible to get an exact estimate let me know if i miss something, but what i am looking for is to have a custom knife made that looks very similar to the bob loveless chute knife http://standardwd.com/lovettknives/01.jpg i love the style but not crazy on the price so i was looking at about a 5 inch blade and that handle to be equally proportioned i was thinking around 4.75 inches about im not quite sure on the steel i was thinking s30v, 1095, or cpm 3v i am leaning heavily towards the s3ov at around 61rc i hear thats good and would like the blade to be .25 inch thick i like the design but i also want to use the knife as well, finally the handle i would like micarta handles but im not a maker so i don't know if it can be shaped like that or maybe g 10 but if all else fails wood is still an open option so if i could get a price or a good custom knife maker to contact that would be great thanks very much for the helpheres a better picture with red liners on it

The Loveless Chute is 4.5-4.62 blade length and aprox. 9.0 OAL.
There's quite a few makers reproducing the below in an array of prices ranges, many with micarta handles.
Blade steel will affect price a little. Good hunting.

Contact Charles Vestal. He can make you such a knife, do a great job for an excellent price, and get it done in a reasonable amount of time. There are many other makers that work in this style, but many of them are backordered for years.

You do have a couple of options... You could try the AG Russell Chute knife which is handmade here in the US...

or the Bark River...

You could always put your own together. This kit uses better steel than most kits do, AUS8. You would be able to choose handle material and if wanted change the blade profile to suit you.

One more option it to simply google "chute knife"...I did and found dozens of result from custom makers like this one...

My advice is to upgrade your membership to allow you to search the forums. I just did this recently and I should have done it the day I signed up (I waited 2 yrs). You can search this Custom section for Chute Knives and check out some pics of other members knives and who made them. Many makers are posting on this subforum too. You can also search the knifemakers sale forum here as I have seen a few chutes there. You can then decide the maker based on the price and quality you're looking for.

The cost of the annual membership will be well spent if you find the right maker to complete this order.

You can also check the various online dealers some of which post here often as well.

Happy searching.

expensive, yet fully qualified maker that I have seen doing it, in stainless with hollow grinds, of the correct type is Geno Denning at around $500.00......it goes up rather quickly from there......when he first started going again, back in mid 2004, Lovett was charging about the same....the problem is that he is backlogged about 8 years.

I second Steven's recommendation. Geno is fast, his F&F is impeccable, and his pricing is perfect for value seeking customers.

Another guy I'd recommend without hesitation is Rob Brown.

Les Robertson and I were talking about Rob Brown, who makes and IMPECCABLE chute knife.....he is another maker that is hard to get work from...last I heard, the wait was around 2 years+.

Wonderful to hear STeven. I have only been waiting for over 5 years for 4 knives I ordered and lots of folks have received knives since I ordered from RB.

If you read what I wrote, Murray, am agreeing with Joss that Rob makes a nice knife, and then go on to state that there is a long wait time....some people said two years, others, such as yourself, are indicating much longer than that.....

Everyone has their own approach to getting knives.....my longest wait was for a Wootz Southwest bowie from Al Pendray, at right around 3 years....made sure to sure to contact Al whenever it was practical(before a show, on the anniversary of the order, when I felt like it....)at this point, makers generally deliver what is ordered for me within a reasonable approximation of the quoted delivery date, in Al's case, he originally told me anywhere from 3-5 years, and it was on the lower end of the estimate.....so what is Rob's problem?

STeven, too long gone.

Echo STeven and Joss about GenO. I have a chute/Big Boy hybrid, and have nothing but praise for the man and knife. Took 1.5 years, but Geno was handling some harsh personal problems then. I believe he is back up to speed (about 1.0 year wait), but call him (803 794-6067) to be sure.
