OK I am new to this INFI stuff. I am slowly learning my way through all things Busse.

Now, I am looking at 2 knives at the Busse Company Store. I like the Meaner Street a lot. I also like the Satin Jack TAC they just put up.

Meaner Street - Satin finish, snake skin micarta scales. $307.00

Satin Jack TAC - Desert tan finish, tan canvas micarta scales. $247.00

Why does the smaller knife cost more??

That's $60 cheaper for 2 inches more blade!! If this trend continues, I should be able to afford the Steel Heart at $187!!! :D :D

On the coated blades, the metal is left rough. Jerry doesn't have to work very hard for this one.

Whereas, to apply a satin finish, Jerry has to tell Garth to remove all the imperfections in the blade and give it that uniform sanded grain. All of Jerry's extra time in doing this does cost a bit more...but I think it's worth it.

:D

Any idea what the HOG Satin Jack will cost? I have a serious thing for that one.

that SJT has one of the "standard" finishes,, which means that it is the 'basic",,therefore cheapest combo in both blade finish and handle for that model.

but that Meaner Street with the Satin blade Finish(most expensive blade finish),, and snake skin scales(most expensive handle pattern),,,will easily escallate this smaller busse to above the price of the larger "basic" busse with the ''Standard" blade/handle combo, because it has the "luxury" blade and handle combo,,

Yeah!... what Galaxy said! ;)

I actually asked this exact question back in 2002, and here is the answer straight from the HOG'S mouth:

The satin finish requires much more hand-finishing and thus more time spent on each individual knife. Our tests have shown that the blade coating does not adhese as well to the highly polished surface of a satin finish as it does to the slightly coarser finish that is present before polishing. Therefore, if we spent the extra time required to polish every blade, we would have to charge more for coated knives that would offer lower performance in regards to coating adhesion.
Hope this helps,

I'm reasonably certain that the price was $427. There was a SIGNIFICANT difference due to the thicker stock (.22 vs .187), the satin finish, and the tiger stripe handles. I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of mine.

Thanks for the info. I kinda expected the blade finish and fancy grips were the price booster. I love the shape of the Mean Street. I am saving my pennies. I doubt I will have funds together while the company store is still selling them. I will have to wait for the factory to make a basic model or search the used market.

The factory does have a basic model, it's called the Model T Street, and is the cheapest one at some 187 dollars. They're all sold out, so you'll have to keep an eye out for private sales or wait for the new production run.
