I recently came across a fellow knife maker from prick knives I think his name is Mark Weinstock I saw a few knives he was working on that obviously had a hamon and it seemed to be acid etched as well. However the hamon line was the only thing polished almost white like. Everything else was dark etched. He has an Instagram, I have no idea how it's done any ideas.

Likely damascus, I've seen the same thing (on instagram) you describe and it was specific pattern of damascus.

It's "Marc Weinstock" and the answer is right there on his Instagram, "San Mai ... knife made from layered high carbon steel and nickel." It's not a hamon. Rather, it's a nickel layer in the steel sandwich.

Well welcome to the forums first off. Seems all the info is right there on Instagram. For the members that don’t have Instagram I would post a few pictures if I was you so the question you’ve asked could be answered. Since you’re new here pictures help some of our highly skilled knife makers chime in about the question being asked. I’m sure any information that Prick knives hasn’t provided to your question can be answered here
