Hey Im a newbie. Im look at getting a primary and secondary knife for camping and hiking (do i even need 2 knifes). I was looking at Kabar Dozier for my main knife and a Mora Companion as back up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forums. Personally i wouldnt bother with 2 fixed blades, especially for hiking.

Ive found a single fixed blade coupled with a multi-tool to be perfect. In my case i carry a Fallkniven F1 and a Swiss Army Knife. The fixed blade handles all the fire prep, batoning, wood-work etc. My Swiss Army Knife handles all the minor stuff such as cutting bandaids, removing splinters, opening tins and MRE's, preparing food, etc.

Sorry I meant Kabar Dozier Folding, i didnt even know there was a fixed version. And at the moment I cant afford an F1. I live in Australia if that helps with pricing differences.

My fault, the fixed blade version is called the Kabar Bull Dozier.

But yeah, a fixed blade and a folder is a good combo. I wasnt suggesting you buy the F1, i was just trying to tell you, that a fixed blade + multitool/folder is a good idea.

OK cool and the Kabar Dozier Folding and Mora Companion are both good Knives?
Or should i be looking at something else?

Try them both first, see if they meet your needs, inexpensive way to test and the you can go more expensive if need to.

What do you want from the knives? Splitting wood? Food prep? ETC?

I take a whole range when I car camp. When I backpack, I typically carry: 1 folder. 1 Condor HD kukri, and one 3.5" belt knife, usually my Gravelle FK-SM (the length is so I can EDC my belt knife anywhere in the state rather than anything else).

With this combination, I can do anything I need to do to take care of general camp or survival tasks.

So for my situation, given your requirements...I'd carry a smaller belt knife like my FK-SM, and my Kukri. Those 2 knives get the most work, and cover the range of typical tasks that need to be done in a camp/backpack/survival situation. If I could only have 2, those would be the knives I brought.

I could likely get the same with a mora and the kukri, but the kukri is guaranteed to come with me so that I can process wood.

I also carry a multi-tool, but that's less of a "knife" to me, and more of a tool.

Both are great choices. Very high value for the low price tag.

If you are looking for more choices in about the same price range take a look at Svord, Condor, Opinel, and for a little bit more a good Victorinox or Wenger swiss army knife.

At the moment It's a mix between edc and weekend hiking/ camping trip. Splitting wood wouldn't be something I'd be doing a lot of. I think I'll go with the 2 I've been looking at and see if they suit my needs. It sound like they should do the trick from what you guys have said. Thanks for the help. :)

No problem. No matter what, you will need to figure out what works for you, and that means trial and error. You are picking quality knives, which is a big plus. Even if they aren't exactly what you want in the end, they will be good to work with and fine tune your set-up.....

I've gone through a variety of knives before I ended up with what I have now.....and I grew up going into the woods. I never used to be a "big knife" kind of guy, preferring a hatchet.....but I've since found a big knife provides more options, especially so with my kukri. I love that thing (but I process wood with it, which you don't need to do).

I bring a multi tool and fixed blade, but normally my fixed blade is a large one. Multitool is used to fix, knife is not used much.
