I was wondering if somebody could point me in the right direction as to where I could find some production/semi-production primative/rustic finshed fixed blades.

There used to be "River Knives" I believe over at Knifecenter but I can't seem to find them at the moment for some reason.

The only other ones I've seen were at Kellam knives.

Thanks for your help.

Boy, I'd like to know too......primitive/rustic usually means "handmade", which kinda negates the production/semi-production notion....

But, by all means, if anybody knows, please post it here!

Thanks for the links guys.

If I used the term "handmade" people might think I'm referring to custom made. I use the term "semi-production" because the way I see it, knives such as Kellam, TOPS, etc. are handmade but not custom.

I'm not looking to spend custom maker prices right now.

Hey! Check out the new Barettas'. They're made of AUS-8A and have the "old west" look about them. I haven't checked their web site yet, but I do have the catalog. If I remember correctly, the MSRP on two of the knives was set at $70.00. Not too bad! :)

I think the Ragweed Forge knives are from the "River Trader" brand. Do you have any experience with them Silverfox?

Wunderbar

I can't really tell from the pics on their website, but they look as if they have some sort of patina on them. Can you make them out in your catalog?

Thanks all.

I almost hate to post this, as his stuff disappears fast enough as it is, but you need to check out Swamp Fox knives here:
http://www.swampfoxknives.com/page_4.html

The page will take a while to load, as it has many pictures. Tim is constantly making and selling knives. Most last less than a week up on his page, so you need to check back frequently. He has all sorts of styles that he makes, and often turns out belt axes and occassionally black powder firearms.

Recommend highly,
Warren

Siga Siga/Silverfox et al.:

Yes, the Ragweed Forge knives are from "River Trader," down in southern Oregon. I met the maker at the Eugene mini-show last winter. As I recall his name is Dean or Dale or something like that -- super nice guy with mountain-man style beard, buckskins etc. I had a 19th century carving knife (.25 yard sale item ) whose handle had fallen off & he gave me some good advice on making a new one.

The knives are really nice for the $$. As for the "patina," they just look like very traditional carbon steel knives; not sure if anything is added.

The "Colonial Trade Knives" spotted by kickaha on the KnivesUSA site also look like they're from River Traders (except for the models that say "Steve Fecus Damascus." They are priced higher than Ragnar's but come with sheath.

hope this helps,

Andrew

Thanks for the link, I think I had Knives Usa mistaken for Knifecenter because I'm pretty sure those were the knives and site I had browsed through before.

Yes, I was aware of Swamp Fox Forge. The only problem with those knives is me being to slow on the trigger. All the knives I want are sold.

Not sure if you know about Fox Creek Forge, but he does similar work also. However, you may find you'll have the same problems as with Swamp.

Nice knives.

Thanks for the info. I was curious about the quality of them due to their low prices. Good to hear that they're nice knives.
