with primeval themes ...

If this is not etching it would be referred to as engraving. Scrimshaw is done on materials like ivory, antler, whale teeth and bone.

It also doesn't appear to be a primeval or primative knife. It does look very nice though.

That is so cool the way the engraving on the guard flows into the scrimshaw on the handle. Very nice!

I'm not a big scrimshaw fan, but like RogerP said, the transition between the engraving and scrimshaw looks amazing!
