I would truly appreciate if you guys could clear up a few questions for me.

What is primitive bone exactly and how is it significantly different from other types of bone? Is it simply the outer layer of bone?

It seems to command a premium price, costing less than stag, but more than other types of bone... I am guessing that the raw material has a mid level of scarcity as well as a special manufacturing process.

I really like seeing the variation between Primitive Bone runs. It seems to have the natural qualities of stag, only in a very different package.

Any opinions/ comments/ concerns about Primitive Bone are welcome, -as are pictures for us visual learners! :D

Thank you all in advance for your replies!

My pleasure, Max.

I like the Primitive Bone too. The Dogleg Jack below is the only PM I own but the photos I have seen suggest a wide variation in the texture and appearance of the bone from one knife to another. Each set of scales has its own unique characteristics. In fact, many of them look completely different than mine.

I think that makes them that much more desirable.

Primitive Bone is good stuff!

It gives you the kind of feeling of a white almost Mammoth type of Ivory. I own 2 and love them both. They do appear to have cracks in the ones that I have though they are not actually cracked, so take from that what you will. I think its a great material and very good looking as well. I sent you a PM with a couple of links of them, sorry no pics as of yet and not gonna break out the camera right now to get some. I think you will get a better feeling for them through the videos.

ohh i'ts not like mommoth bone, not million but 60 years old!
looks good anyways!

Thanks for the pictures/ videos/ comments you guys. bbabear01 has some reviews on youtube of the pioneer and scout in PB if anyone is interested.

Well, after browsing all the different variations of this material, I couldn't resist making a purchase and I went for an easy-pocket congress. I really like the "bark" on this stuff, but it looks great smoothed as well.

It is interesting to think that this bone spent more time decaying in a field than I did living.:D:thumbup:

Mine also appear to have cracks but they are the veins of the bone that have developed over time.

Most of them have little cracks in them. I think it is part of the character of the handle.

I love Primitive Bone--one of my favorite handle materials ever.

GEC does a great job on the finish of the Primitive Bone. Mine is perfectly smooth so any "character" that you see is under the polished surface.
