Hi all.

I've been thinking of hosting a primitive/survival gathering here in S. Oregon like Terrill is doing out East. I'm thinking 5 days of primitive camping along one of our crystalline rivers. Southern Oregon is a central location for forumites coming from as far away as Southern California and Washington or B.C., and is also within range for those living in Idaho, Utah, Nevada & Norhtern Arizona. Of course, if anyone from farther away wishes to join they won't be turned down.

It will be held June 12 thru 16 (Wednesday through Sunday). For those of you who can't attend the whole thing, arrangements will be made for locals to guide you to the location if you come in late.

I'll set up a few pre-arranged group activities, but the majority of the time will be spent in informal interaction, sharing skills, and enjoying the great outdoors.

Please let me know if you are interested and/or if you have any ideas. Feel free to email me directly.

Paz,

I'd be willing to go if the job will allow it.Let us know when it is definite. Sounds like a good reason to drive south:)

Looks like I have approval for June 12-16, so we're on!!!

RSVP ASAP so that I know how many to plan for. I'll email specific directions to everybody interested as we get closer to the event.

By "primitive" I'm thinking bring some food, but we'll try to get some from the wilds, as well. I would like for us to build shelters instead of packing them in, but if you insist on bringing Wal Mart to the wilds, use a tarp instead of a tent. We might get our intitial fire going with matches for speed and effeciency, but only if we don't have anybody there who knows alternative (primitive) methods. (I'm still learning...) But we'll try to all learn bow&drill by the time we leave.

So I'm not looking for us to torture ourselves and call it fun, but the emphasis will definitely be on making do with what nature gives us. I hope to get a wide range of skill levels in camp, so we’ll have people challenging themselves at all levels.

I've come up with a few ideas for activities or training. Please let me know what you think or if you can think of others.

1. Tracking
2. Primitive Fire Making
3. Flintknapping
4. Shelter building
5. Foraging
6. Trapping/Snaring
7. Primitive Fishing Skills
8. Survival First Aid & Wild Medicinals

I've also come up with a possible location next to a beautiful river, about a mile from pavement, although a 4WD road will get you closer. It's a perfect spot for swimming, hiking, etc. to add to your experience.
