A while ago I forged out a small utility knife, leaving it quite primitive. The steel was heat colored, and the blade was finished out with a convex edge.

I had a little heat and beat session with some 1084 and 15n20, and decided to take a second look at the same design with this pattern welded steel. I think it turned out quite nice. This one, as opposed to the original, has flat bevels. The final edge is nice and thin, and absolutely razor sharp and tough as all get out. 3.5" overall length makes it nice and handy. Its going up for sale with a special BF price. I will do any choice of sheath, whether it is just a nice leather pocket like the original, or a kydex keyring sheath (which was what I was originally planning for this one.) Cheers!

The grips on the original one are homemade olive and black linen micarta. The texture was done with a rotary tool and a tight columnar carbide rasp. It is basically just a very random finish that is non-slip and resembles wood bark... I cleaned it up a little with a small wire wheel on the rotary.
The knife itself was one of those 'I have this scrap piece of steel' sort of things. Figured I would beat it into something useful. The sheath makes it easy for me to stick in a watch pocket. I ended up using it so much I figured it was time to make another. Hopefully its new owner will find his as useful as I did mine!
