Look at what the mailman brought yesterday! Some of you may have already seen this bowie, but now it is mine. Blade is 10" of forged 1084, with nickel silver guard and bolts. Handle is stabilized box elder burl. I'm a happy camper!

A different picture of the knife and the awesome leather sheath. A little more glare on the blade and handle too.

Sweet looking blade. I have a tactical model coming my way soon. This just makes the wait for mine harder.

The lines of that knife are just so nice. That is one fantastic fighter/bowie. the grinds look to be about as clean as you can get.

LOOK AT THAT....!
Again a winner from Terry Primos:eek:
I have a "tactical" on order with him but this will not be my last
one I guess... such a big beauty would be nice for sure:D

I have no ideea who this Primos guy is ;)
That'a a hell of a bowie Danbo. Congratulations!

Terry Primos, does some outstanding work. He's very active over at CKD Forum. His website is:
http://www.primosknives.com/
He also happens to be one heck of a photoprapher and savy computer guy.

Dan, that knife is a beauty!

Great score Danbo! Terry is a great person and a great knifemaker. He's very high on my list of 'must get a knife from this man this year' :)

He's too modest to blow his own trumpet. Take a look at some of his other work at http://www.primosknives.com

Roger

I agree, Terry is first rate in every department, professionally and personally. Great knife Dan!

It looks outstanding, and has great lines. I have a amboynia hunter by Terry that is an excellent knife. I'm also lucky enough to have one of his bowies on order :D

I'm assuming these knives are free? I immediately checked out his other work....really liked what I saw....was ready to place an order based solely on the photos and the comments in this thread. But I won't. (not yet, anyway) Why? Because -AGAIN - this maker gives NO indication whether his knives are $100....$1,000......or $10,000. (and I've been known to spend a buck or two on a whim or someone's suggestion - just ask the members of the BladeForums Toronto Chapter!;) )

I'm a NEWBIE (especially with fixed blades) and I simply CANNOT just guess what price range we're talkin' 'bout just by LOOKING at them! (I know exactly what most of you are saying right about now - but I'll leave that for another thread on "Marketing & Self-Promotion";) ;) )

To see what I mean - check out Rob Brown's website when it comes back up with the new host (www.robbrownknives.com). He's a custom maker based in South Africa and I ordered a knife from during my FIRST look at his website!

The most common reply from my advertising students (regarding the topic of "no prices") was always something like, "Well...people will be so intrigued by the product they will ASK....or send an email....!)

Wrong.

Why do Les Robertson, Neil Ostroff, Tom Mayo, Brian Lyttle, Greg Lightfoot, et al put prices on their website offerings? Because those prices "define" the potential customer and that results in increased sales and less time answering yet another email asking "So...how much do your knives cost?" from another "Jaguar Knives" collector in Pefferlaw or Gainesville.

Rant off.

Over to you, Murray White! ;) :D

Very nice! I have one of Terry's drop point hunters and it is a fabulous knife. Why does hunting season seem so far away?

I have also been working with Terry on a bowie for future delivery. You would be hard pressed to find a nicer and easier guy to work with. His knives aren't bad either

As always, the kind words from you guys are greatly appreciated.

Danbo,
I'm delighted that you're happy with the knife. As you know, I was sweating it a bit because I've seen many photos of knives in your collection. The caliber of makers you've worked with is very impressive. Many of them I know, and many of them I've learned from through the years. So I've seen their work up close and first hand. Being a relatively new-kid-on-the-block I'm always nervous putting my work up beside theirs.

With works from guys like Fisk, Massey, Crowell, Fitch, etc. in your possession, I remember thinking, "If I can ever get this guy interested in my work, I'll feel like I've arrived". ;)

cockroachfarm,
I obviously am not allowed to talk business or money in here, and hopefully the fact that I'm responding in this thread won't turn it into a commercial and get it moved. I understand what you're saying completely and thought I'd explain what's going on with the website. It's not an excuse, just an explantation.

When I created the website in 1998, it was not a commercial venture. The plan was to have a site with lots of articles, tutorials, and general information on knifemaking, with emphasis on the forged blade. It was just to share information. The Gallery section was just to show some of the things I'd made in the past.

As it ended up, I was getting a few requests to make some knives from folks who dropped by the site for a visit. It was still just a serious hobby. I wasn't marketing myself or my knives at that time, because I already had a career which ate up most of my time, and for which I was grossly overpaid. Hence, no prices on the site. I wasn't trying to drum up any business.

I finally got so busy with computer geek work that I outright stated on the home page, I would not be accepting any more orders. The long term plan was to retire at 30 years and then take up knifemaking full-time to supplement the pension income. At that point I would start marketing myself and my work.

But in December of 2001, the plant where I'd worked for a little over 28 years shut down, leaving me jobless and pensionless. I decided what the heck, I'd give the full-time knifemaking a shot. At that point I changed the home page to show that I would resume taking orders. Much to my surprise I immediately started getting orders -- I mean the same day. And by some miracle, it hasn't slowed down yet.

So, eventually I will in fact revamp the site and change the Gallery to reflect all the new patterns which will be offered, and will post some prices. It will officially be a commercial website.

The lack of time is both a blessing and a curse right now. I'm the CEO, the shop foreman, the maker, the head of marketing, shipping and transportation, public relations, purchasing, accounts payable and accounts receivable, the chief designer, secretary, and the floor sweeper.

I'm also the photographer and the webmaster. In my spare time I'm a moderator and administrator on a knife related forum, and the guy who answers questions in about 30 emails a day. Be patient with me my friend, and I promise to get that website up to your liking, complete with the new pricing structure.

Thanks again everyone. Now I've got to get my butt back out there in the shop. Today's just another work day for me.

Terry -- great knives; great attitude. Please contact me by private email. No rush.

Congrats Danbo,

That's another mighty fine bowie you've got there - real clean lines. Terry is to be congratulated as well - I haven't seen a knife of his that I didn't want to buy immediately. And that sheath looks great too! I'm most jealous.

Cheers,

RogerP
