Pics and words to share with you all about a hunter /utility knife that Terry just made for me. I had the pleasant experience of being able to provide him with information about what the knife would used for, and my preferences about blade thickness, handle length etc. Terry’s creation showed up this morning and I am really pleased with what he came up with. For lack of a better description, it is a large, wide bladed version of his Montero. For me, a great does most anything sized knife.

The balance is perfect. Beautiful desert ironwood burl with really nice figuring was used for the handle – it is difficult for me to capture how nice it looks with my pictures. The guard is about in line with the deepest part of the belly, which keeps it out of the way, but offers security. The blade has a double temper line, and the edge is thin and the knife cuts really well. Terry put about a 25 degree edge bevel on the cutting edge that makes for a nice working edge without being too fragile.

The spine is domed and all edges on the knife except for the important one have been rounded for comfort.

Blade steel is 1085, length is 5” with the overall length of the knife being 9.5”. I have had a chance to butcher some chicken, cut cardboard, do some whittling, and other various chores around the house today. This is a fine using knife that feels delicate and yet sturdy all at the same time.

Terry takes a simple hunter/utility knife and does a fantastic job of executing it. The thought had crossed my mind not to use it, but it just screamed to be used.

You guys done good! That's a fine looking knife and I don't doubt that it works very well indeed. I really like the idea of a domed spine.

That is a fantastic looking hunter. It looks to be just about the perfect size. The sheath is pretty awesome as well.Great package, congrats.

Great looking knife!

I don't buy many fixed blades, other than small neck knives, since I never get to carry them. That said, Terry Primos is at the top of my list of makers to order from, once I get some extra money. There's something about his work that just calls out to me.

Beautiful knife, timeless pattern that shows some Fisk influence. I love the temper line.

It looks like it would be a pleasure to use.

Congratulations. :)

That is a beauty for sure.
Bonus points for using it...it would be a shame not too!

Looks perfect, Terry's work is just so damn clean! Is the handle mortice construction or a solid piece?

Cheers,

Stephen

Thanks for the kind words guys. I really appreciate it.

Stephen, it's a mortised tang.

Coonskinner,
You're quite right. Jerry has been one of my good friends and one of my primary teachers through the years. As a matter of fact, my standard Montero is more-or-less a tribute to him -- similar to to the Sendero. It's not a copy, but the influence is evident.

Geode,
I'm so glad you are pleased with the knife. I really enjoyed working with you on this project. I look forward to out next one.
