My wife has a no-name box running Windows XP home. She has an HP P1006 printer. Her printer frequently hangs up. She hits a print icon in any of several programs and the printer won't print. The printer popup says that the file is "printing". I try to delete the file and it just stays there and says it is printing. I start and stop the printing from the printer popup. No joy. I reboot the computer and no joy. unplug the printer then plug it in. No joy.
I found that by stopping the Windows spooler, then starting it again (in the "administrative tools") I get joy. (the printer prints the file.)
This happens frequently
Anybody got ideas as to why the spooler isn't talking to the printer until I give it a kick in the rump? And is there a way to fix it so it don't need the kick?
