After HT I knew I had a hamon because I could see the temper line vaguely when I was cleaning up the grinds. This is how it came out, needless to say I was happy and pissed at the same time. My thought is I need to re-do the HT to get the hamon the full lentgh of the edge. BUT I DON'T WANT TOO!

What are your thoughts?

Looks like a nice blade you have there. You asked a question and I will answer with a question......... "Would you buy it knowing the last 20% of the blade's cutting edge is not the same as the first 80%?)

Look in the mirror and ask that question, and the person looking back at you will give you the answer.

Do it right and you will be a happy camper. :)

Edited to add: "Oops, you asked for "Professional" opinions and I don't quite qualify"

Thanks Fluidsteel...

and Robert you definitely fit in the Pro category in my book... and you are correct I knew the answer, it was just not the answer I want! Haha.

I apologize. I was thinking merely of the aesthetics and was not reflecting upon the transitional effects of the steel(martensite and pearlite transitions???) on the cutting edge... Kind of like a hamon junky.... Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I really like how well you've brought them out in the last few knives I've seen of yours. Good job!

Haha... thanks Daniel and Mike, always count on you guys to tell me I am not quite there!

Fluid, I was doing the same thing you did. I love 1095 and W2 cause it is like opening presents on Christmas, sometimes you get underwear and sometimes you get something cooler than underwear...
