I purchased a Pro-Tech USA - Mike Norris Rain Drop Damascus Limited Edition Damascus Runt #26 of 31.It looks like a Kershaw and has a Kershaw pocket clip.I was told Kershaw assembled the knife.Does this sound right? Thanks for any info.Tom

I dont think kershaw makes the protech knives. They did make some autos in the past for emerson. But even those that the signature hexagonal shaped pivot screw. The clip used on the runts and other protechs are a pretty generic design. I do often wonder though how Protech being a california based company can manufacture its autos there but microtech is based out of PA which also has automatic laws. I would be surprised if the runt was made by another company especially since those are actually legal in cali. Who told you they were a Kershaw made product? They do occasionally ghost build products for other makers but usually its for those lacking their own production facilities. Or where the manufacture of certain products is restricted. Like how asheville steel makes the spyderco autos and how benchmade makes the autos for bradley.

I believe the Emerson Auto even says Kershaw or at least KAI on the blade. I haven't had mine out in a long time. Oddly, mine came in a Bradley box that was labeled with what appears to be a ZT type label on the box as far as font and layout. It isn't marked as a blem though so I'm not sure what the story with it is.

The Bradley Kimuras and A.G. Russel knives made by KAI are not labeled. I believe some of the OEM work must have a nondisclosure agreement attached. I think the info on the Acies only really came out because of the Blur style thumbstud. I'm sure anyone asking for an OEM now would ask they don't use any identifiable parts. I seem to remember Thomas saying they were to busy to do OEM work these days but KAI is a business and if the profit is there they may still. I speculated about an Oregon custom makers recently announced production run but Thomas said no without really saying no. It was enough to dissuade my sleuthing anyway, which maybe why it wasnt a hard "NO" But still, I'm inclined to now believe they do little or no OEM stuff these days and that custom makers stuff is done by a small machine shop that does some production knife work.
